Must Visit One Of The Largest Marine And Freshwater Aquaria in South East Asia At Underwater World Langkawi And This Is Family-Friendly Attractions
When was your last time visiting an underwater world attraction? It has been awhile for me and I even forgotten about the feeling when surrounded by the great marine life.
I was excited when I knew that I will be visiting Underwater World Langkawi for the very first time, although I have been to Langkawi for countless time.

Underwater World Langkawi is one of the largest marine and freshwater aquaria in Southeast Asia that has been operated for the past 25 years. It was built to raise awareness on the importance of conserving the precious aquatic life with the concept geared towards knowledge, education and also entertainment.

This aquaria is showcasing 11 different sections of marine animal including the Sub-Antarctic section which is also known as the aquarium's star attraction.
1. Preview Tank - Arapaima, a Jurassic fish known as the largest freshwater fish in the world and can grow as much as 3 m.

2. River Ecosystem - A river-flowing concept tanks and displaying freshwater fishes.

3. Tropical Rainforest - Large walk-through aviary to experience of being in the heart of Tropical Rainforest environment. Alligator Snapping Turtle (Penyu Pemakan) species is also known as the biggest freshwater turtle in the world, it can grows up to 60 cm long with typical lifespan between 20 to 70 years.

4. Temperate Section - Home to South American Fur Seal and African Penguins. There is a walk through on 8-meter tunnel that enable you to see the African Penguins swimming around in an environment as close as possible to their natural habitat.

5. Sub- Antarctic Section - the "star-attraction" of UWL, the Rockhopper Penguins. They got their name from their behavior that love to jump from rock to rock.

6. Hexagonal Tank - Made up of 70,000 litre hexagonal tank with the theme of sunken ship.

7. Tunnel Tank - venture into the deep sea along a 15-meter long tunnel to experience being surrounded by giant sea creatures.

8. Koi Pond - set in an outdoor lush and vibrant tropical scenery with splashing sound of the cascading waterfall.
9. Invertebrate Section - Unusual and peculiar sea creatures from Southeast Asia are display here.

10. Coral Reef Section - Underwater coral garden with an explosion of delightful color is part of the living treasures of the ocean's delicate ecosystem.

11. Venomous and Poisonous Section - These creatures display in this section hold deadly weapons in disguise of their needle sharp teeth and spiny fins

I was so entertained by the seal feeding where these cute creatures were fed by their trainer while showing their own abilities such as dancing, flipping on the hop and more! The show ended within 15 - 20 minutes but really worth waiting and watching it.

Just like other attractions, there are feeding times set by UWL. The time below is captured during my write-up and subject to changes.
Seals:
Saturday - Thursday: 2.30 P.M.
Friday: 4.00 P.M.
African Penguins:
Daily at 11.00 A.M. and 2.45 P.M.
Rockhopper Penguins:
Daily at 11.15 A.M. and 3.00 P.M.
Tunnel Tank:
Daily at 3.30 P.M.

Special operating hour during school holidays and public holidays observed as the attraction will be operating from 9.30 A.M to 6.30 P.M.

ReplyDeleteThe last time I visited UWL when I was in 3rd year primary school. So long ago and back then I wasn't even know what have I seen. I just saw them with admire and curiosity about sea.

ReplyDeleteBeen there before and it was really a good attraction especially for kids to see, learn and explore. There are really a lot of marine creatures to see and there are penguins too.
