Our Muslim brothers and sisters will be welcoming the Holy Month of Ramadan in just 4 days! Are you ready to fast for a month before celebrating Raya Aidilfitri this year? I still remember when I first tried joining my coursemate fasting back in 2009, it was not easy to do it for the very first time and along the journey, I managed to complete the fasting for 28 days during the Ramadan. The most memorable one will be fasting in Houston, Texas and it was the longest hour of fasting ever compared to us in Malaysia.
Anyway, as a preparation to welcome the Holy Month that is approaching real soon, the chefs at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur have prepared a Ramadan Buffet spread that will take you on a trip down the memory lane. With the theme of "Warisan Kita" that will be held at Serena Brasserie, you will be able to find a menu with recipes that are inherited by their chefs that are passed down from generation to generation.
Now, let us explore the main highlights of what "Warisan Kita" has to offer and InterContinental Kuala Lumpur promises that you will find a favourite amongst these edible memories.
Be sure to look out for the "Pasta Goreng Kawah Cucu Bonda" where this is a Malaysian fusion take of Mee Goreng, using Spaghetti or Fettuccine Noodle instead of yellow noodle, stir fried with chicken slices, fish cake and a secret home-made mee goreng paste prepared at "Warung Mee Pak Sapri",
This is a fond childhood dish that was prepared by Chef Sapri's mother where this dish was invented in the spur of the moment as she went through the ingredients available at home.
Next, the "Nasi Kukus Balqish" that featuring Kari Kepak Barramundi and Rendang Ayam Tok Nek. The Rendang Ayam is a recipe that taught to Chef Balqish by her Grandmother. This is the third generation and her nasi kukus is best accompanied with the Gulai Kawah Bonda, Patin Tempoyak Temerloh and Pucuk Ubi Lemak Kuning that available at the "Hidangan Utama" section.
How can we miss a Ramadan Buffet without a Spit Roasted, Whole Lamb that is succulent and tender, right? This is a must-have dish which is the "Kambing Golek 7ujuh Keturunan", the signature dish that you won't forget after trying it out.
The whole lamb is marinated with a trade secret by Chef Nadzira and the same marinade recipe has been shared over 7 generations now, hence it is relatable to the name now. It is best to have it with a choice of Percik Sauce or Rosemary Sauce with a variety of roasted vegetables and potatoes.

A symphony of seafood delights from all corners of the world is also available at the forefront of Serena. The "Seafood on Ice" is a famous menu that is always aimed by all the diners as it features US Oysters, Blue Swimmer Crab, New Zealand Green Lips Mussels, Vanamei Prawns and Slipper Lobsters.
Other than "Seafood on Ice", do try their "Ikan Bakar Haji Aiman" which is served at the Al Fresco section of Serena Brasserie. The seafood is fresh off the boat and grilled catch of the day which includes fresh stingray, mackerel and stuffed squid that are prepared to perfection.

Interesting to know that InterContinental Kuala Lumpur's signature restaurant, the Tao Chinese Cuisine & Tatsu Japanese Cuisine will join the fold as a guest appearance. This time around, Executive Chef of Tao, Chef Kong, will bring his delightful Sweet & Sour Crab and Butter Prawns that will be made available at the "Hidangan Utama" spread.
Tatsu rolls in with their famed Sushi Rolls with Assorted Maki and Nigiri Sushi will be made available too from Tatsu's Sushi Bar.

InterContinental Kuala Lumpur also brought a Malaysian Ramadan Bazaar staple into the buffet spread where you can find "Daveed & Fikri's Mini Roti John" that brings their take on the humble sandwich. The mini Roti John is a recipe that was inspired by Chef Fikri's brother where Chef Fikri sold Roti John with his brother at the local Ramadan Bazaar before joining Serena Brasserie.
This is not the end because you need to save some more room for dessert to try out "Ah Chan's Apam Balek Lembut dan Gebu" that proves to be truly gebu. It is fluffy and soft, ensuring a sweet end to a gastronomically captivating night.
Chef Chan's Apam Balek is traditionally prepared with Kaya, Sugar, Sweet Corn & Ground Peanuts or served with InterContinental's home-made berry compote. As recommended, this apam balek is best accompanied with the selection of assorted NZ Kapiti's Ice-cream.
I couldn't share with you the picture of this tempting dessert as the ice-cream was not available during my recent dining. Hopefully soon during my iftar here, we can try it out, okay?

Butter prawn tu nampak menyelerakan. Banyak juga hidangan kat sini. Kalau mereka berdekatan boleh la menikmati hidangan kat sini untuk ramadan kali ini.
