Have you heard about Scoliosis before and do you know that it can affect people of any age even starting from the babies to adults, but the common cases diagnosed start with children at the ages from 10 to 15 years old? 

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that most often is diagnosed in adolescents. Although most scoliosis cases are mild, some curves worsen as the children grow. Worst case scenario, the severe scoliosis can be disabling.

How Scoliosis Affects The Body? 

An especially-severe spinal curve can reduce the amount of space within the chest and affect the lung failing to work in optimum and functioning properly. This will create complications such as chronic pain, breathing difficulties, and a reduced capacity for exercise.

Scoliosis may develop as a result of degeneration of the spinal discs or paired with arthritis, osteoporosis or run in families as a hereditary condition. Some of the early sign of having the scoliosis include:

For your information, the month of June has been selected as the official awareness month for Scoliosis. ALTY Orthopaedic Hospital, known as the preferred orthopaedic healthcare  service provider has partnered with pharmaceutical company, Viatris to drive the awareness campaign on Scoliosis among Malaysians. 

During the month of June, a total of 4 pharmacy branches in Klang valley will be conducting this posture screening to detect early signs of Scoliosis. The best part of it is that walk-in visitors will receive the screening as a complimentary. 

Parents with young children along with the youth are highly encouraged to undertake the posture screening. 

As a healthcare institution, we are committed to drive awareness and educate Malaysians to detect early signs of Scoliosis. The final two screenings will be held in the following locations and timings, so plan your trip to Health Land @ The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley and CARiNG @ Section 17, PJ on the 25th June 2022 and 26th June 2022 respectively starting from 10.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M.
