Dear Readers,
The LUMA Hotel Makes You Feel Home With The LUMA Way Only At Kota Kinabalu And This Is The First Design Hotel In North Borneo & The Third In Malaysia
First Night Stay At The LUMA Hotel, Kota Kinabalu |
If you asked me whether it is worth or not to purchase the AirAsia Super+, my answer is YES based the travel plans that I had scheduled throughout the one-year validity.
For my recent Sabah 3 Days 2 Nights (3D2N) trip, the return flight ticket cost me only RM 45.20. So, if you are a frequent traveler and have "many" plans in mind, you should really go for the pass to save extra bucks on the flight tickets.
The LUMA Hotel Offer A Staycation That Makes You Feel Like HOME |
Anyway, for today's entry, I will be sharing about my staycation experience at The LUMA Hotel, also known as the first Design Hotels located in North Borneo and the third in Malaysia after The Prestige and Macalister Mansion, both are located in George Town, Penang.
The LUMA Hotel opened its door earlier this year on the 30th January 2022 with interior designs purely inspired by the majestic tropical rainforest and Sabah's unique culture.
Hence, from the moment you walk into this hotel, you will be welcome and greeted by the friendly staff to assist you in your check-in process, feel the peacefulness within the premise as almost every corner comes with the calming Earth tone, both green and brown that representing the richness of Sabah's rainforest.
The Interior Designs Are Inspired By Both The Richness Of Sabah's Rainforest And Unique Culture |
The word LUMA originated from one of the local ethnicities, Bajau which carries the meaning of home in English. Therefore, The LUMA Hotel aims to provide warm hospitality and make your stay feel more like home.
Even the hotel's logo is so close to the local nature richness as it is inspired by two local flowers, the Rafflesia and Coelogyne Papillosa (White Orchid) that can be found on the highest mountain in South East Asia aka Mount Kinabalu, one of the Sabah's pride.
The Iconic Staircase In The LUMA Hotel |
Every structure and design in The LUMA Hotel represents what Sabah are rich and unique for. As an example, this iconic staircase looks shell-shaped that represents Sabah which is well-known for its beautiful beaches and islands.
On top of this, you will notice that the design at Jojo Gastrobar closely resembles the shape of Mount Kinabalu and it is connected to this staircase creating the effect of flow from the top to the bottom, representing the beautiful nature in the rainforest park.

Since I am talking about Jojo Gastrobar now, let me introduce to you one of the Eats & Drinks that are available in The LUMA Hotel. This rooftop dining and bar offers you a perfect place to relax while enjoying the diverse fusion of foods and a wide assortment of drinks ranging from fun cocktails to sake beverages and also fine wines.
My breakfast is served here too with simple and basic dishes available, just perfect for me to kick start my day before heading out for my next activities in town. It is a buffet style, eat all you can but of course, just take what you can eat and food wastage is not a good habit, a big NO NO, okay!

Now, let me share about the room types available here in The LUMA Hotel. In general, we can classify them into three categories, room for 2 pax, room for honeymooners and family room that can accommodate up to 4 pax.
During my stay, I had the Emerald Original which is built with relaxation in the mind of the interior designers for the guests, it is really spacious with a total space of 38m2 with either Hollywood or Super King bed setting and en suite bathroom fully equipped with toiletries, standing shower and bathtub.

My stay can be labelled as perfect when all my basic amenities need are readily available and The LUMA Hotel checked all the boxes. The room comes with a Coffee & Tea maker and complimentary drinks like Sabah Tea, etc., bottles of water for the first stay as you can refill your water from the water dispenser, bathrobe, slippers, hair dryer, kettle, safe box and 43" TV.
The LUME Hotel really loves green, the hotel promotes sustainable and green culture as they believe that to love Sabah is to protect the environment from pollution. Therefore, you can observe that the facilities, amenities and toiletries are designed in an eco-friendly manner.

As I was still on the work from home basis, I eventually work comfortably at the sofa bed corner in the room and connected to the hotel Wi-Fi without any lags or disconnection issue, making the stay a perfect one either it is just for a leisure stay or meant for the business trip.

As mentioned there are other two types of room available, come and let me share with you some of the pictures that I took during the hotel tour conducted by the hotel team. First, is the honeymooner room also known as the Palm Marvelous.
The Palm Marvelous room is highly curated with sophisticated designs for those who love privacy with large glass brick windows and a standalone bathtub area making it the most exclusive room here in The LUMA Hotel. The romantic lighting makes it even more perfect for the lovely couple to enjoy more personal time together while staying here.

Next, if you are traveling in a group of four either family or friends, you can go for the Family Extraordinary which was designed with generous scale and proportions, this room offers comfort with independent living corner and TV, the bathroom, on the other hand, is equipped with double sink, built-in tub with pivot windows and separate lavatory.

Those are all the room types that are available at The LUMA Hotel, so you know which one to book when you are planning for your trip to Kota Kinabalu in the near future.
Oh yes, I forget to mention that this hotel is also strategically located in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, it is so close to the airport, the shopping mall is just a stone's throw away within walking distance and it is easily accessibly by Grab as I just travel around with this mode of transportation.
Other facilities that are available here include Gym (Open Daily From 7 A.M. to 10.00 P.M.) located on the 1st Floor, Meeting & Events that is perfect for mid-sized workshops, board meetings, conferences or gatherings, and Surau for our Muslim brother and sister to perform their daily prayers.
Before checking out, we had another round of meet-and-greet sessions with The LUMA Hotel management team. It was indeed a warm gesture and a wonderful quick catch-up with them. We had a glass of refreshing beverage each at Flow Coffee, the new café house that seeks to contribute with a taste of Borneo's hidden jewel.
